Papua New Guinea has become a major factor in the vanilla bean market. Both Vanilla planifolia and Vanilla tahitensis beans are grown and the quality is comparable to the very best beans from Madagascar and Tahiti.

Silver Cloud offers both the Vanilla tahitensis and the Vanilla planifolia beans in a wide variety of packaging options from 3 beans to a one pound pouch.

The Vanilla tahitensis beans were traditionally only grown in Tahiti. Production was small and the beans were expensive. Planters in Papua New Guinea (PNG) are now growing large quantities of beans and we can offer the best quality prime beans, at prices much lower than beans from Tahiti. No matter what the origin, Tahitian beans are low in vanillin and high in "anisyl" compounds. This gives them a fragrant, fruity character prized by gourmet chefs for use in pastries, creams and other bakery applications.

Our vanilla bean pouches are sold by weight. The bean counts in these pouches can vary depending on the size of the beans. As a general rule, a 1/4 lb. pouch has 23-27 beans a 1/2 lb. pouch has 45-55 beans and a 1 lb. pouch has 90-110 vanilla beans. If you require a specific bean count we recommend you choose one of our specific bean count options (3, 5, 10, 12, 25 and 50 beans).
